The various editions of Yusuf/Cat Stevens' Teaser and the Firecat are due from A&M/UMe on November 12. This recording predates the release of both Mona Bone Jakon and Tea for the Tillerman. While the demos from that release have been carried over, the live recordings from The Troubadour 1971 ("Moonshadow"), Royal Albert Hall 1972 ("Bitterblue"), The Majikat Earth Tour 1976 ("Tuesday's Dead"), Royal Albert Hall 2003 ("Peace Train"), and Yusuf's Café 2006 ("The Wind") have not been reprised on these new editions.Ī previously unreleased demo of "Moonshadow" recorded in 1970 at Olympic Studios in London is now streaming on YouTube and other services. Note that collectors should hold onto the 2008 Deluxe Edition of Teaser. David Hefti has remixed Teaser and the Firecat and it's been mastered at Abbey Road Studios under the supervision of original album producer Paul Samwell-Smith. The original album will also be available in 1-CD and 1-LP editions along with a 2-CD version with 13 bonus tracks. UMe will also offer a slightly slimmed down, slipcased version of the Super Deluxe Edition with the 108-page book in softcover format and no LPs. Yusuf's son Yoriyos has curated and designed each box. It's all housed in a clamshell box in the style of the recent expansions of Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Back to Earth. A 44-page, 12" booklet replicates the original, long out-of-print Teaser and the Firecat storybook (written and illustrated by Stevens) with text in ten languages, while another, 108-page hardcover 12" book has liner notes and more. The film itself is one of the features on the Blu-ray. The 7-inch single has "Moonshadow" backed with Spike Milligan's narration from the 1977 Teaser and the Firecat animated short. Among the audio treasures are demos, alternate mixes, and reinterpretations (in the latter category, a new reworking by the older Yusuf of the album's final track, "Bitterblue²").

It premieres a remixed and remastered version of the original album on CD and BD, plus 41 previously unreleased tracks and 21 live performances released for the first time. The centerpiece of the upcoming campaign for Teaser and the Firecat is a lavish Super Deluxe Edition boasting 4 CDs, 1 Blu-ray, 2 LPs, and a 7-inch vinyl single. The LP made an impact throughout the world, including in Australia where it became the biggest-selling album of 1972. "The Wind" has appeared in films including Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous and Wes Anderson's Rushmore. Other songs from Teaser went on to have further lives, too. It would inspire covers from the eclectic likes of Roger Whittaker and Labelle and much later provide the basis of a musical. "Moonshadow" fared almost as well, reaching the top 30 in the U.S. Pop chart and topped the Adult Contemporary survey, with the latter inspiring covers from an array of artists including Johnny Mathis and Floyd Cramer. Both "Peace Train" and "Morning Has Broken" went top 10 on the U.S. With its frequently gentle melodies, alternately romantic and socially aware lyrics, and varied arrangements (including bouzouki and Caribbean flavors), Teaser vaulted Stevens to the forefront of the singer-songwriter movement. Following last year's 50th anniversary deluxe reissues of Mona Bone Jakon and Tea for the Tillerman, Teaser and the Firecat will return from A&M/UMe on November 12 in various editions. Featuring three of the singer-songwriter's most beloved songs - "Peace Train," "Moonshadow," and an adaptation of the hymn "Morning Has Broken" - Teaser became his first U.K.
